London Borough of Tower Hamlets
Adventures On The Underline
Tower Hamlets council identified the disused land under the rumbling Docklands Light Railway tracks as having the potential to be repurposed as useful public spaces. With their placemaking ambitions at an early stage they needed a creative way to catalyse activities and interest in the project.
In response we worked with our partners at FACE Events to conceptualise, market and deliver Adventures On The Underline, a new annual community arts festival for local residents set in these unique urban locations.
We reimagined the spaces to create an interactive trail of live music, circus, street art, parkour and wellbeing activities across three sites under the tracks. Drawing on our network we collaborated with local and national arts and sports organisations to produce high quality artistic content and community outreach activities.
With finite budgets we created an efficient and targeted marketing and comms campaign within the borough. We reached over 216,000 people (OTS) via organic and paid socials, delivered a street ad campaign and our in-house PR garnered hits with Time Out, Londonist and local media.
The results exceeded expectations, with over 4,000 of the community attending to enjoy a unique mix of outdoors arts, movement and entertainment while reconnecting with and reconsidering their built environment.
